How to add a forum to blogger | Blog forums for free

Forums for blogger blogs is it possible? ...yes... and really easy to do. This is the technique for adding a forum to blogger blogs only and I have not tried adding a blog for the word press platform yet. Adding a forum to your blog will definitely make your blog stand out from all the rest and add a professional feel to your blog. First you will want to make a new post or static page for your new blog forum, but I suggest a static page so you don't have the date appearing in your page url.

The difference is show below (Not real url's)

  • forums-for-blogsblogspot.com/2010/05/forum.html - Bad, using post
  • Forums-for-blogger-blogsblogspot.com/p/forum.html - Good, using static page

The choice between the two is obvious, but no matter which one you chose you will have a forum on your blog appearing only on the post or static page. Now you will want to head over to Nabble to get your free customized forum for your blogger blog and grab the html embedded code . Once you have the embed code for your blogger forum log into your blogger account and the blog you want to have a forum on and go to layout. Now click on add a gadget then scroll down to HTML/JAVASCRIPT and enter your code there and save.

Note: Also add the forum embedded code to your static page in  the   edit html section

( Remember to add the name *forum* to the gadget)

<b:widget id='HTML1' locked='false' title='THE TITLE OF YOUR GADGET' type='HTML'>
<b:includable id='main'>
<!-- only display title if it's non-empty -->
<b:if cond='data:title != &quot;&quot;'>
<h2 class='title'><data:title/></h2>
</b:if>
<div class='widget-content'>
<data:content/>
</div>

<b:include name='quickedit'/>
</b:includable>

Once you have the gadget saved open edit html and search for your gadegt called forum.

( remember to click expand widgets) you can find your gadet by pressing Ctrl and f then type forum into the search box. You should find what you see on the right.Now right under <b:includable id='main'> you want to put<b:if cond='data:blog.url == &quot;http://your blog name here.blogspot.com/p/forum.html&quot;'> then under <b:include name='quickedit'/> put </b:if>

Now save your template, but remember to save your origonal templat before ever making any changes so incase a mistake is made you can fix it.

How it appears in your blog

Now all the brain bursting html coding is done you should have a nice little forum on your blog that you can customize. This will appear when you put the gadget on your layout so I suggest putting the gadget above where your post area would appear. That way it doesn't look different and interfere with your blog. Don't worry if it doesn't work right the first time you try.. a mistake might have been made and no matter how in depth I explain it every one makes mistakes I know I did. a Forum for blogs can increase your blog traffic by a huge margin and drive up your returning visitors, which is a plus because returning visitors are more likely to link to your blog because they them selves enjoy your blog and find it useful. If you have never worked with html before you are not alone. Building your own blog up rather then having some one else do it is self satisfying and you don't need to be a computer guru to make minor changes to html codes. If you have no html experience try sitting down to add your forum to your blog at a peaceful time where you are not already frustrated by another issue. Doing this with a calm head will increase your chances of doing it right, because even looking at html code when I am frustrated gives me a headache.

pilipinoy,

Go to your Nabble Forum and login in the top right hand corner, then click embedding option in the top right hand corner next to your sign-in name. This will provide the embed code for your Nabble Forum.

Bored if I understand right... the url should look like this http:// your blog name here.blogspot.com/p/forum.html.

notice after .com the /p/ this is because of the static page you should have made and forum ... assuming you named your static page that.
